Greater Western Area (Southern and Eastern sectors) Specialist Palliative Care team

Referrals to the Specialist Palliative Care Service can be made by any health professional a patient themselves or family and friends.

The Specialist Palliative Care Nurses are located at 4 major centres in the Greater Western Area.

Forbes: Community Health Centre (02) 68 50 2233

Parkes: Community Health Centre (02) 68 62 1866

The Specialist Palliative Care Nurses are available from 8.30 am -5-00pm Monday to Friday. The nurses can visit palliative patients/carer's in their homes in hospital or in a residential care setting.

The Palliative Care Specialist Nurses can offer a range of services to support palliative patients and their carer's (including professional carer's).

This includes:

Advice on symptom control.
Helping to cordinate or refer to a range of supportive services.
Links with Palliative Care doctor's.
Assessment.
Loan of special equipment.

If you think you might need the help of the Specialist Palliative Care team contact the nearest centre and ask to speak to a Palliative Care Nurse.

What is the "Waving Not Drowning 1" Blog and who is it for?

This Blog site is part of the Greater Western Area Health Service Palliative Care and Cancer Services Supportive Care program. We serve rural NSW (Australia) communities such as Bathurst, Orange, Parkes and Forbes and their surrounding districts.

The development of this site was supported by Arts OutWest NSW Regional Arts and Health program.

This blog site is a place where palliative patients or their carers can get information or links to resources and support in their local community (and outside their local area)

This blog site creates an opportunity for people living with a chronic life threatening illness and the people who care for them to communicate to others in a similar situation by sending an entry which will be posted on the blog which others can read and respond too.

This blog is also for people who have experienced the threat of being diagnosed with a life threatening illness, survived and would like to talk about their experience.

This Blog is administered by James Daley Clinical Nurse Consultant for Palliative and Supportive Care: Greater Western Area Health Service. (Southern and Eastern sectors)
